To make it in business you have to be controlling and hard nosed. You get to set the environment and boundaries. You determine how you operate and of course others can take it or leave it.
That includes employees and consumers.
All transactions sit with the business and the boss.
Well, not any more.
In a world of limitless choice, the pendulum has swung very much the other way.
Consumers and employees now have as much say in what they buy and where they work.
You can ignore it of course, but society has evolved.
When given the choice, people want to align with businesses and workplaces that share their values.
As a business, you should be attracting those customers and employees through your purpose.
They will be your best and most loyal customers and employees.
Simon Mainwaring, CEO, We First Inc published in 2018 that:
- 81% of purpose driven brands grow more in value; and
- 133% of meaningful brands outperform competitors in the market; and
- Purpose is the #1 motivating factor for employees.
And more and more studies are showing the numbers are growing in favour of the customers and employees since then.
But you can only do that if you know why your business exists, your business purpose.
Can you really afford to not unearth your purpose?
