Is the Great Resignation real?

Purpose

Before COVID had even appeared, one of the greatest challenges emerging for leaders and businesses was convincing consumers of their authenticity, authentically!

In other words, how to build trust in an ever sceptical and choice rich society.

It’s even more important now as choice is not exclusive for consumers.

When COVID emerged, new ways to do business weren’t just required for businesses and their leaders, it also impacted employees. Arguably more so.

Employees were required to convert their homes into offices. Routines changed and new habits formed.

So after the best part of two years in this new and unpredictable environment, people are all now familiar, routined and reliant on working from home.

Remote and Hybrid work is now an expected norm, not a nicety, for workplaces across the world.

Microsoft has just released their 2022 World Trend Index outlining findings from a study of 31,000 people in 31 countries, including Australia.

The report outlines “hybrid work is up seven points year-over-year (to 38%)” on previous World Trend Index surveys, and “53% of people are likely to consider transitioning to hybrid in the year ahead.”

So whether you call it a ‘Great Resignation’ or not, work habits and the workplace are shifting substantially. Employees are now seeking authenticity and flexibility from their employers, and are willing to resign and move workplaces to do so.

Leaders and businesses need to prepare and adapt to their surroundings.

Without a clear business purpose, the authenticity, understanding and care needed to keep your employees will be difficult to find.

Businesses need to start acting now to avoid feeling the impact, cost and effect of the Great Resignation happening to your business.

Have a great day!
