We now live in a giant village.
We all consume sports from around the globe faster and more than ever. The world we grew up in was very different to the one our kids are growing up in now.
Kids today only know a life of choice, and who doesn’t want or like choice?
Access to global sports, markets and trends is as easy as it’s ever been and commonplace in Australian society.
Global trends in consumer behaviour now impact all facets of our lives and they also need to be taken into consideration in sport.
Look around for inspiration and guidance from trends for where your sport needs to go.
Integration of trends doesn’t need to be perfect, but it does need to be front of mind and considered where possible.
Some global trends that need considering are:
- Rise of non-traditional and non-organised sports
- Short burst activities over time consuming ones
- Homebody economy
- Everything is online
- Climate change effects on playing conditions and facilities
- The rise of conscious consumption
- We’ve hit peak sharing (non ownership)
- Rise of virtual experience economy
There are plenty of global trends to consider, and the above is only a sample, but all need to be paid attention to.
You don’t need to be overwhelmed by global trends, just remain alert that your current and future participants are the ones setting the trends.
Watch, ask and learn from your participants, and make sure you include these future considerations in today’s discussions.
Have a great day!
