Ask each of your team to write down the answer to this question: “Why does our business exist?’
Collate the answers.
If they are not all the same, ask yourself what are your team basing strategic and operational decisions on.
Each business has a purpose.
Each team or department in that business has a purpose.
Each person has a purpose.
Getting alignment between all three is where the opportunity lies, and where the magic happens for all parties.
People’s personal goal is to find a place or business where they fit the culture, have shared values, believe in the vision and find fulfilment. Where they give discretionary effort because they feel valued and contribute to that collective vision and success.
As more people begin to unearth and understand their purpose, they are seeking somewhere to go which aligns to that purpose.
That’s why it’s important as a business to ensure you send the right signals through your business purpose – to attract the right people to join you.
If you can meet the needs of someone seeking a place of purpose, you will see increases in talent retention, innovation and strategic focus.
Not a bad return by simply aligning your purposes.
Have a great day!
